President of U.S. Institute of Peace To Speak To Dallas Residents

DALLAS -- The president of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), Nancy Lindborg, will speak to a group of Dallas residents in April about the challenges and importance of peacebuilding in today’s world.

The event will take place on April 1, at 7 pm at the Center for Community Cooperation, Oak Corner Conference Building, 2900 Live Oak St., Dallas.

Having recently returned from a trip to USIP programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ms. Lindborg will share an on-the-ground perspective, as well as a broader vision of the ways in which conflict management is essential to current U.S. foreign policy priorities. USIP is this country’s global conflict management center, which was created by Congress in 1984 to enhance the U.S. capacity to prevent, manage, and resolve international conflicts through nonviolent means. USIP does this through direct engagement in conflict zones and by providing analysis, resources, and education to those working for peace.

“We are so pleased that Ms. Lindborg will be speaking to our chapter and other guests,” said David Reid, president of the UNA-USA Dallas chapter. “We at UNA-USA are committed to public education about international affairs, in particular, issues related to the UN. We are pleased to have as partners for this event the Embrey Human Rights Program at SMU, the Dallas Peace Center, and Peacemakers, Inc.”

The event is sponsored by the local United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) chapter,
