Full Scholarships to H.S. Students to Study Abroad (BP Global Citizens of Tomorrow)

New York, NY -- Full scholarships are available to high school students in Chicagoland, Greater Puget Sound and the entire state of Texas through the BP Global Citizens of Tomorrow Program administered by AFS-USA.

This scholarship program is awarded to financially challenged students from diverse backgrounds with strong academic records and the desire to increase their cultural awareness and foreign language skills. Students with an interest in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) are encouraged to apply.

Twenty-three scholarships are available to study for 10 months in five countries--Brazil, China, India, Malaysia or South Africa.  The scholarship covers the full program and includes international and domestic airfare. View here for more information and the application.

This is the fourth year of the program, jointly sponsored by AFS-USA and BP. “BP recognizes the value of investing in an interculturally fluent workforce. Our partnership with AFS is evidence of our commitment to develop the talent of young students who are truly interested in becoming global citizens of tomorrow," says Redia Anderson, BP Chief Diversity Officer, Americas.

Brianna Rivera of Houston, TX studied in Brazil during the 2013-2014 academic year. She is currently a  freshman at Emory University in Atlanta.

"Becoming a BP Global Citizen taught me so much about the world and its workings. I don’t believe I would have had the skills and qualifications needed for admittance at such a prestigious university without my experience in Brazil. Last summer, I interned at an energy investment bank in Houston where my international experience seemed to be a deciding factor in my acceptance into the internship program. The BP Global Citizens of Tomorrow has enabled me to seize every opportunity that comes my way.”

The scholarship program also hosts 25 students from the five participating countries who will come to the U.S. to study in Chicagoland, Greater Puget Sound and Texas. If you live in one of these areas and are interested in hosting a BP scholarship recipient, learn more here.
