Mayor’s GrowSouth VISTA program now recruiting candidates
DALLAS -- Mayor Mike Rawlings is recruiting candidates to join the GrowSouth Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program. The project will hire seven VISTA members to help make a difference in Southern Dallas.
Each VISTA member will receive $983 per month for their work, plus an additional $5,500 educational award, options for health benefits, child care benefits and paid sick leave/vacation.
“We all have a stake in our city’s future,” Rawlings said. “Becoming a VISTA member is a chance for people to be a part of building a more caring community, and it is an opportunity to make a real difference.” VISTA members are charged with reinvigorating and inspiring underserved Southern Dallas neighborhoods; strengthening neighborhood associations and helping to develop programs that bring people out of poverty.
In addition to assisting neighborhood associations with establishing community development visions and plans, members will have access to resources and knowledge of the City Manager and executive staff and interact with the Mayor and City Councilmembers.
Deadline for applications is Jan 5 and the VISTA positions will start on Feb. 17. To apply visit https://my.americorps.gov/mp/login.do. For more information visit www.nationalservice.org.
