DALLAS, TX (July 31, 2014) – Registration is now open for two free debate workshops for high school students in Dallas-Fort Worth and surrounding areas, sponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis’ (NCPA) Debate Central.
Workshops will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 20 on the University of Texas-Dallas (UTD) campus. Each workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Lessons are taught by nationally successful college and high school coaches, such as University of North Texas (UNT) Director of Debate Brian Lain, UNT Asst. Director of Debate Louie Petit, UTD Director of Debate Scott Herndon, Southlake Carroll High School Director of Debate Jason Sykes, Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet Director of Forensics Kris Wright and 2011 Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) National Champion Derek Ziegler.
Students will receive coaching in debate fundamentals, adaptation to new topics, research and preparation, argument refutation and speaking skills. They will also receive introductory evidence packets to use in their debates. The workshops will offer instruction in Policy (CX), Lincoln-Douglas (LD), and Public-Forum (PF) debate formats.
Attendance is free. Lunch is provided for all attendees.
Priority registration deadlines are Monday, August 4 for the August session, and Monday, September 15 for the September session. Late registrations will be accepted through the beginning of each event, but students are encouraged to register as soon as possible to guarantee their participation.
