Shots fired at Dallas Police Headquarters this morning; no officers injured

Dallas -- Dallas Police Headquarters was attacked by what witnesses described as multiple suspects in an armored type van early this morning. The suspect vehicle rammed a Dallas Police vehicle and began shooting at officers, striking the squad cars. No officers were hurt or killed in the 12:30 a.m. assault at the headquarters building, 1400 Lamar St.

Officers chased the vehicle south of Dallas to the parking lot of a Jack in the Box at 121 South Interstate 45 Service Road in Hutchins at approximately 12:44 a.m. While in the parking lot, there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and officers.  Squad cars were struck but no officers were injured.

Negotiations continued with the suspect, and police used 50 caliber weapons to disable the vehicle. Police say four satchel- type bags found to contain pipe bombs were also placed around the DPD. DPD’s Explosive Ordinance Detonation Unit are using robots to detonate the explosives.

Officers evacuated residents of the Southside on Lamar Complex, located at 1409 South Lamar Street.
