Texas Attorney General Seeks to Dismiss Lawsuit Over Birth Certificates


AUSTIN, TX -- The Texas Department of State Health Services has been denying a number of immigrant parents the birth certificate of their American-born children for several months. The agency has refused to issue the birth certificates, because they do not recognize passports and Mexican matrícula cards issued by the Mexican consulate offices throughout Texas.

THE PRESIDENT: My fellow Americans, tonight, I’d like to talk with you about immigration. For more than 200 years, our tradition of welcoming immigrants from around the world has given us a tremendous advantage over other nations. It’s kept us youthful, dynamic, and entrepreneurial. It has shaped our character as a people with limitless possibilities –- people not trapped by our past, but able to remake ourselves as we choose.

Illinois House approves special temporary driver's license for undocumented immigrants

WASHINGTON, D.C--  Behind strong bipartisan support, the Illinois legislature voted today to grant a special temporary driver’s license to immigrants who are in the country without authorization. This safety measure will ensure that all drivers on Illinois roads will have been tested on their driving skills and on the rules of the road, and that they will have insurance. It now goes to Gov. Patrick Quinn, who supports the legislation.
