Nearly 7-in-10 Americans See Unaccompanied Children at Border as Refugees, Not Illegal Immigrants


Approximately seven-in-ten Americans see the growing numbers of unaccompanied minors arriving in the United States from Central America as refugees, not illegal immigrants, and support a policy that offers shelter and support while their cases are being reviewed instead of immediate deportation, a new survey finds.

One in three Americans falsely believe most Latinos are undocumented

More than 30 percent of non-Hispanics inaccurately think that a majority of Latinos in the U.S. are undocumented, according to a new poll from the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) and Latino Decisions about media portrayals of Latinos and immigrants. Only about 18 percent of the Latino population in the U.S. is undocumented, and 37 percent of U.S. Latinos are actually immigrants.
